“Hi,Yuri” is an mobile AR simulation game specially designed to comfort the communities who are mentally and physically suffering from the social distancing of the pandemic. User will raise their own Yuri by playing mini games and collecting items, they can also review real time COVID data.
I have always been interested in emerging technologies and game development. The AR project offered me an opportunity to explore the combination of two. In doing so, I had to think more deeply about the specificity of the user’s identity(people in need of mental support) and the specificity of the game flow with AR technology. Thinking from the User’s perspective, iterating more and providing beautiful designs where the core concepts supporting user retention. Having only a few experiences in-game UI design, this project helped me identified the difference of UI/ UX design roles between the game field and commercial field.
As a UI/UX designer in the team, I had to frequently communicate with the developers and the 3D modelling artist while designing. Therefore, effective communication and weighing the feasibility of design were explored throughout the project. Although there were many challenges and failures throughout the project, we found our way and tried our best to fix and improve to deliver this game on time, the overall result was satisfactory. I appreciate the other members of the team (Michelle Lin, Yutao Zhu, Jieyi Liu) for their patience and help, and created a perfect collaboration and special memories for the last project of my university life.
